With the introduction of HCI, D-Link's 10-gigabit L3 switches have been adopted, consolidating management while maintaining three-layer separation to achieve efficient network operations.
During the network resilience enhancement, L3 switches from another company were introduced. At that time, redundancy was achieved by operating two L3 switches each without using VRF. Although the configuration was simple before the upgrade, maintaining a configuration of four L3 switches after the upgrade would incur significant costs, so we were considering optimal configurations with proposals. In April 2023, alongside the introduction of Nutanix's HCI (Hyper-Converged Infrastructure), the core switches were also upgraded, and operations began. The core switch introduced was the D-Link 10 Gigabit L3 switch "DXS-3610-54T." In preparation for the introduction, we spoke with the representatives from Murayama City about the challenges and concepts they had, as well as the changes brought about by the network upgrade, including the sales group and technical representatives from High-Tech Systems who were involved in the network construction. At Kumamoto University, we have previously introduced a number of FXC L2 switches, but due to significant aging, a large-scale replacement has taken place this time. The goal was to change nothing in the configuration, speed up where possible, and replace the machines with ones that can operate more stably. In 2022, the global expansion of semiconductor demand led to a sharp increase in the shipment of "semiconductor manufacturing equipment." A significant issue that arose was the unprecedented delays in delivery of "embedded devices" used in semiconductor manufacturing equipment. The ongoing semiconductor shortage made it impossible to manufacture embedded devices, resulting in prolonged delivery times, with L2 switches being one of the seriously affected devices. To discuss the transition from the previously delivered L2 switches to D-Link's L2 switch DGS-1100V2 series, we spoke with a representative from Sakae Denki Co., Ltd., a comprehensive trading company of electronic components and one of the suppliers for a certain semiconductor manufacturing equipment manufacturer.
